Tying Instructions: Titan Tube Midge

1. Slip the tungsten bead onto the hook. Attach the hook to the vise.
Step One
2. Cut a 2" section of Micro Tubing and a 3" section of Small Wire. Placing the tubing in one hand, thread the wire into the hole of the tubing keeping everything straight, without kinks.
Step Two
3. The wire should slip easily through the tubing. Twisting the tube in a clockwise direction and a firm insert of small amounts of wire will get all of the wire through the tubing section, leaving 3/4" of a tag end on one side and a 1/4" tag on the other side of the tube.
Step Three
4. Do the same technique to the contrasting color of wire you desire. I am using red and black. Now fold over the 1/4" end of the wire to lick the tubing in place.
Step Four
5. The 3/4" tags are tightly wrapped around the hook shank at the bend of the hook, 3-4 turns.
Step Five
6. Next, loosely wrap the tubes forward. As you get near the bead, use your index finger and thumb to twist the tubing around the shank tighter. This will probably give you enough space to make another wrap closer to the bead. Step Six
7. Leave about a bead width of space open between the tag of the tubing and the bead. Secure the tag end of the tubing with a few tight thread wraps behind the bead and trim off the tag end of wire. Apply more thread wraps behind the bead to secure the wire.
Step Seven
8. Build up a flat section behind the bead with thread.
Step Eight
9. Take a 2 inch piece of Pearl Tinsel and trim off the end to a point. Place the tinsel point behind the bead and secure with some thread wraps.
Step Nine
10. Wrap the tinsel around the base of the runway and the wire tubing one time. Secure the tinsel with a couple of thread wraps and trim off the tag end of the tinsel.
Step Ten
11. Attach an Ostrich Herl to the base of the runway section with the base of the herl near the edge of the bead. The direction of the Ostrich fibers should point towards the bend of the hook/
Step Eleven
12. Wrap the herl forward from the base of the runway to the bead, about 4-5 turns. Secure the tag end with a couple of thread wraps between the bead and the tag end. Trim off the tag end of the herl and the wire off the butt end..
Step Twelve
13. Apply a Whip Finish behind the bead.
Step Thirteen
14. Apply a drop of Superglue to the butt wires
Step Fourteen
15. The finished Titan Tube Midge.
Step Fifteen
